January 2008. Already.
The Sunbeam has been off the road since about mid-November 2007. I trade my tax disc back in to the authorities over the Winter months. This has 2 benefits - they give me some money back and I'm not tempted to take the car out when there's salt on the roads. I usually re-tax it in March ready for the spring and summer. The car's not good to drive on wet roads anyway - it was a bit tricky as standard, but with the Yoko A032Rs delivering brilliant dry tarmac grip which is most of the mileage I do, they're really rubbish in the wet - there's just not enough tread to disperse deep water. Having said that, I haven't been out in any serious wet since the July '07 MoT when the tester pointed out that the rear tyres were running incorrect rotation so now that's been put right perhaps it will be less of an issue. Must have a serious word with the tyre shop next time I'm there.....
So, I currently get my Sunbeam fix in 2 very limited ways - I run the engine every 2 or 3 weeks (which usually needs some planning as the battery is now about 6 years old and not too hot so I need to charge it up for about 12 hours in advance), and via the club magazines. The quarter 4 ASOC magazine has a full article in I wrote about the build of my car by its previous owner. It takes up a good few pages so I hope it is of some interest to the members! I submitted it to the editor about this time in 2007 so he's either finally found space or got desperate enough to publish it!
